Frequently Asked Questions
To achieve renewable energy there is usually a requirement to net the equivalent electricity consumed through the process of purchasing and surrendering Large-scale Generation Certificates to account for the renewable energy used.
Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs) are tradable certificates that represent one megawatt per hour (MWh) of electricity generated from renewable energy sources at accredited power stations. LGCs can then be sold by the company generating the electricity to another company who surrender the certificates to meet any voluntary renewable energy obligations. All surrendered LGCs can be tracked through the Renewable Energy Certificate Registry administered by the Clean Energy Regulator. At the end of each calendar year Ampol purchases and surrenders an equivalent amount of LGCs for electricity consumption (in MWh) attributed to our Ampcharge EV chargers in order to promote renewable energy.
