Background 

1. This privacy collection statement describes how Ampol Energy (Retail) Pty Ltd (ABN 21 652 913 347) (referred to as “Ampol Energy”, “we”, “our”) and its related bodies corporate (together, “Ampol Group”) collect, use and disclose your personal information you have provided to us during the Web Shop checkout or Driver Portal account creation. 

2. Ampol Energy provides electric vehicle home charging solutions in Australia under its brand [“Ampol Energy” or “AmpCharge”]. In operating our business, we collect, store, use and disclose personal information from a range of people, including our existing and prospective customers, suppliers and service providers.  
 

How we collect your personal information  

3. The main way in which we collect your personal information is directly from you, for example, when you purchase an EV home charging product or service from us at ampcharge.ampol.com.au/charging-at-home/compare-ev-chargers (“Web Shop”) or sign up to the AmpCharge Driver Portal at customer.ampol.com.au/driver-portal (“Driver Portal”).  

4. In some instances, we may collect personal information about you from third parties and through other means, including without your direct involvement. For instance, we may collect your personal information from publicly available sources of information (such as social media platforms), or third parties that provide services to us. 

5. By submitting your personal information to us, including by purchasing or using our products or services, you: 

a. agree that you have read, understood, and accept the terms of this Privacy Collection Statement and the Ampol Group’s Privacy Policy; and 

b. consent to the collection, storage, usage and disclose of your personal information in accordance with applicable privacy laws and as described in this Privacy Collection Statement and the Ampol Group’s Privacy Policy

 

Types of personal information we may collect 

6. The types of personal information we may collect about you are dependent upon your relationship with us. For example, we may collect personal information from you when you use our website or Driver Portal, contact us via email, SMS or telephone or otherwise interact with our products or services (including when we deliver, install, service or maintain our products or deliver our services.  

7. Below are examples of the types of personal information we may collect from you: 

a. Contact information - your name, email address, billing and delivery address, telephone number and other contact details you provide to us; 

b. Device installation information - details about you EV charger installation including installation location, your electricity metering details, your electricity retailer and tariff type an any information provide to us by the electrician you elect to install your home charger(s); 

c. Device information - your EV charger serial number, charger usage data, performance specifications, electricity metering data, system diagnostics and geo-location data; 

d. Interactivity information - including what pages of our Web Shop and/or Driver Portal you visited and how you interacted with them through the use of cookies and other similar technologies; 

e. any other personal information you provide to us 

8. If you provide personal information about another person to us (for example, about other owners or users of your EV), you will need to obtain their consent to share such information with us and notify them of Ampol Group’s Privacy Policy

9. If we cannot collect personal information that we require from you, or if the information is inaccurate or incomplete, we may be unable to provide our products and services, to you. 

 

Why we collect your personal information 

10. We collect your personal information through our Web Shop and Driver Portal to enable us to: 

Primary purposes

a. process and complete your order and fulfill the purchase of our product and service offerings; 

b. process payment for your purchase; 

c. communicate with you about your purchase, including providing information to you about the products or services you purchase from us (this may include but is not limited to installation services, charger registration, usage and product safety guidance; 

d. create, manage and maintain your accounts with us; 

e. monitor product performance and provide you with related customer support and establish customer support capabilities, including remote assistance, troubleshooting and software fixes or updates;

Secondary purposes

f. inform you and collect your consent when we update our terms and conditions, policies, collection notices and confirm your details are up to date;

g. respond and handle your requests and complaints;

h. request and collect your feedback on our product and service offerings, online content, and interactions to understand your experience and seek your guidance on improving and uplifting our product and service offerings; 

i. understand how our product and service offerings including digital content relate to, interact, and perform with users and connected devices, including: 

i. analyse and model your interactions with our products and services offerings including digital content to get to know you and your preferences better. This helps us to provide you with personalised special promotions, offers, products and other benefits via direct marketing (including by email or text if you opt-in) or tailored online advertising (including on websites you visit, social media platforms, and in Ampol Group’s apps). You can opt out of receiving these messages at any time.


ii. to understand, analyse and monitor energy usage patterns, charging preferences and locations and system diagnostics to enhance user experience, recommend personalised charging schedules and enable the management and to continual improvement of our charging infrastructure and product and service offerings;

iii. to conduct other business activities including analytical modelling, audits, fraud monitoring and prevention, customer segmentation, predictive maintenance, demand planning, financial reporting, tailored and direct marking (including by email or text if you opt-in), and improve our product and service offerings and improve assets reliability, security, and safety. 

j. Inform and provide you with material on industry standards, changes, and topics related to our product and service offerings;

k. complying with legal requirements or obligations; 

l. other purposes set out in Ampol Group’s Privacy Policy

 

Disclosure of your personal information 

11. We may disclose your personal information to third parties for the purpose for which we have collected it, including 

a. To our service providers who we engage to assist us with our functions (including our payment partners, IT service providers, delivery and logistics partners, outsourced contact centre service providers to fulfil and deliver your orders, and installation, maintenance, service and fulfilment partners that assist us with installation, supply, service and maintenance of EV chargers). When we do this, we take reasonable steps to require them to secure your information, and only use if for strictly defined purposes; 

b. Professional advisors, mailing houses, merchant facility providers and companies that assist us with marketing activities; 

c. Debt collection and recovery agencies; 

d. Relevant investigative bodies to conduct investigations where we suspect cases of fraud or we have identified data security risks; and 

  e. As required by a law of the Commonwealth, State or Territory.

Some of the third parties to which we may disclose your personal information are located overseas, including in the United Kingdom, New Zealand, USA, Singapore, Philippines, India, China and the European Union. Ampol Group’s Privacy Policy provides further details about the overseas disclosures of personal information in our business. 

13. As noted above, we may use your personal information across Ampol Group for the purposes of marketing of our products and services by various means, such as direct marketing communications (via emails and SMS) or tailored advertising (on websites you visit, through our mobile applications or social media platforms). We may also contact you about products and services offered by our partners. If you do not wish to receive marketing communications from us, you can opt-out by contacting Ampol Group’s Privacy Compliance Officer at the details set out below.
